UNIVERSAL CHILDREN'S DAY IN ISRAEL

Gila Chedva Sara, an Israeli child from the Kassam beaten town of Sderot in Israel wishes for International Children's Day tomorrow that "the Kassam rockets will stop falling on Sderot because I'm scared to die from them." on Monday November 19, 2007. The International Children's Day (ICD) is celebrated in numerous countries and is celebrated in Israel on November 20. Since December 14, 1954, United Nations and UNESCO observes 20 November as the Universal Children's Day "to be observed as a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding between children. It recommended that the Day was to be observed also as a day of activity devoted to promoting the ideals and objectives of the Charter and the welfare of the children of the world." Focusing world attention on the 60,000 children dying per day, half under the age of five according to UNICEF and the 150 million orphaned children as of 2007.
