Bahai Shrines in Israel Chosen as World Heritage Sites

The Bahai Temple and gardens in Haifa, Israel on Monday July 14, 2008. The resting places of Bahaullah and the Bab in Acre and nearby Haifa, Israel have been designated World Heritage sites by UNESCO on July 8, 2008. Considered the two most sacred sites for Bahais, the shrines of the founders of the Bahai Faith. The shrines are noteworthy for the formal gardens that surround them, blending design elements from many cultures. In addition to Bahai pilgrims, they attract hundreds of thousands of visitors and tourists every year. Photo by Rafael Ben-Ari/Chameleons Eye.
